2017 tourist season at Loop Mind Lighthouse commences tomorrow

The 2017 tourist period at Loop Head Lighthouse begins tomorrow as the historic West Clare landmark opens to the public initially this year.

Clare Region Council, which manages the lighthouse in conjunction with the Commissioner of Irish Lighting (CIL), says 27, 274 individuals visited the lighthouse in 2016 delivering an estimated € 2 mil injection to the local economy.

The popular tourist attraction is situated at the mouth of the Shannon Estuary on the Loop Head Peninsula, that is one of two “ Signature Discovery Points” in County Clare along the route from the Wild Atlantic Way. Clare County Authorities is continuing to work closely along with Elected Members, the local community, Cycle Head Tourism and other tourism growth agencies in promoting the sustainable advancement tourism throughout the Peninsula. ”

Loop Head Lighthouse can be steeped in history and rich in ocean going heritage with its origins dating back towards the 1670s. The existing tower style lighthouse was constructed in 1854 plus was operated and maintained with a keeper who lived within the lighthouse compound. In January 1991, the particular lighthouse was converted to automatic procedure, and today is monitored by the CIL.

Loop Head Lighthouse will remain open daily (10. 00 a. m. to 6. 00 p. m. ) until Nov 5th.
