ALL OF US airlines carried an all-time large number of passengers in 2016

  eTN Article:

The united states Department of Transportation’ s Agency of Transportation Statistics (BTS) documented today that US airlines transported an all-time high number of people in 2016 – 823. zero million systemwide, 719. 0 mil domestic and 103. 9 mil international – surpassing the previous heights reached in 2015.

The airlines also set perfect annual highs for systemwide, household and international revenue passenger mls (RPMs) and available seat-miles (ASMs).

Although passenger travels handled by airlines reached a good all-time high in 2016 there were a lot more empty seats available because air carriers expanded capacity at an even greater price. Load factor – the way of measuring the use of airline capacity – dropped from previous years.

The annual load factor dropped from 2015 (83. 8) in order to 2016 (83. 4) because program capacity grew faster (3. nine percent increase in ASMs) than the development in passenger travel (3. 5% increase in RPMs).
