Ethiopian journalist released from prison

This posting is an important update by the Committee to protect journalists and the freedom of the press worldwide:

New York, March thirteen, 2017–Authorities responsible for overseeing implementation associated with Ethiopia’s state of emergency nowadays released Ethiopian commentator Anania Sorri.

Anania told CPJ this individual was released unconditionally today, four weeks after his November 17, 2016, detention without charge under a state associated with emergency the government declared the 30 days prior. He told CPJ which he planned to continue writing. Anania blogposts critical commentary on a public Fb page followed by some 11, 500 people.

“Today’s launch of Anania Sorri is accepted news, ” CPJ Africa Planner Angela Quintal said. “We desire Ethiopian authorities to free other journalists and bloggers still locked up simply for doing their jobs. inch

After Seyoum Teshome and Befekadu Hailu, Anania was your third Ethiopian journalist to be launched since December 1, 2016, whenever CPJ last conducted its annual census of journalists jailed all over the world.
