Jamaica Minister of Travel and leisure, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, has declared that the World Bank has agreed to acquire Jamaica and the United Nations World Travel and leisure Organization (UNWTO) in staging the particular historic Global Conference on Creating Partnerships for Sustainable Tourism designed for Development, which will be staged from Nov 27 to 29 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, St . Adam. The move is aimed at increasing the global impact and positioning from the conference.
Speaking on the first press briefing for worldwide media, which was jointly held by Ministry and the UNWTO in Philippines today (March 7, 2017), UNWTO Secretary General, Mr. Taleb Rifai, introduced the new partner. Minister Bartlett in addressing the gathering mentioned he believes that the conference has been set on a new plus interesting path with the inclusion of this major partner.
“ The inclusion of the World Financial institution as a partner will be a ‘ game-changer’ in terms of how the conference is positioned. It is going to go way beyond the limitations of a technical conference, but is going to be transactional and business oriented, ” Minister Bartlett noted.
He added that “ digging in the World Bank will provide a grand chance for international funders of tourism to satisfy with Ministers as well as private plus public sector entities that have advancement projects and are able to access financing through these entities. So Jamaica will be the destination where many of these main sustainable tourism development transactions can actually take place. ”
Mr. Bartlett, who is also the particular Chairman of the Board of Affiliate marketer Members of the UNWTO, went on to describe that the addition of the World Financial institution to the initial partners – the federal government of Jamaica, international development company Chemonics International and the UNWTO – will broaden the concept from becoming environmentally driven to now consist of themes such as economic development, economic management, job creation and human being capital development.
