Woman rushed to hospital following attack at TUI travel agent

A woman has been taken to hospital after she was attacked in a TUI travel agents in Merseyside this afternoon.

At least 10 police vehicles and two air ambulances descended on the scene in Southport following reports of an attack on a female staff member.

TUI confirmed that a female staff member was involved in an incident in the shop shortly before 1.30pm today.

She was rushed to hospital but her condition is not yet known.

Merseyside Police said a man was detained at the scene following the incident at the shop on Chapel Street.

In a statement, they said: ‘Officers were contacted at 1.25pm today, Saturday 13th January, following reports of concern for a female at a shop on Chapel Street.

‘A female has been taken to hospital. A male has been detained are the scene.

‘The incident remains ongoing.’

A cordon also remains in place around the building.

A statement from TUI said: ‘We regret to confirm that a female member of staff has been involved in an incident at our Southport TUI retail store today, Saturday 13th January.

‘We’re doing everything possible to assist the local police with their investigation and support our staff and customers at this difficult time.

‘We will issue further statements as soon as information becomes available.’
