RANCHI: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Monday thanked a 12-year old girl from Noida for “breaking her piggy bank” and donating Rs 48,000 to fund the return of three migrants to their homes in Jharkhand. In a social media post, Soren applauded Niharika Dwivedi, a Class VIII student, for helping the migrants. “She has shown remarkable sensitivity at this young age. I thank her and wish her the very best for her future.”
Niharika was pained by the agony of migrant labourers struggling to reach home amid the lockdown and decided to buy air tickets for three migrants, including a cancer patient, with the money she had saved over the years, according to agency reports. “The society has given us so much and it is our responsibility to pay back in this crisis,” ANI quoted hee as saying.

She added, “Watching the struggles of these people inspired me to help migrants reach home. They have contributed so much top the society. I had collected 48,530 from my pocket money and I used it to help three people.”
Niharika’s family was informed about three migrants stranded in their locality and she said she wanted to reach back home. Her mother, Surbhi, said, “She gave me her piggy bank and said she want to help the migrants. We were proud of our daughter.”
