At the base of the Badaling Great Wall, four travel influencers hailing from the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Thailand were recognized as “Great Wall Hero: Visit Beijing Tourism Ambassadors” during the global marketing initiative known as “Great Wall Heroes 2024—Ensemble of the Great Wall and the Central Axis.”

This event was co-hosted by the Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau in collaboration with the Yanqing District People’s Government, with Mastercard serving as an official partner. The gathering attracted representatives from various cultural and tourism agencies throughout Beijing, prominent scenic locations, inbound tourism businesses, media personnel, and international attendees. The proceedings were streamed worldwide through the official “Visit Beijing” social media platforms, engaging over 100,000 online viewers through a combination of images, videos, and live broadcasts.

The Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, embodying Beijing’s role as a national cultural center and a focal point for international interactions, capitalized on the city’s esteemed global standing as a premier cultural and tourism destination to highlight its extensive heritage. In July, the successful addition of the “Beijing Central Axis: A Building Ensemble Exhibiting the Ideal Order of the Chinese Capital” to the UNESCO World Heritage List increased China’s total number of world heritage sites to 59, positioning Beijing as the city with the highest number of such sites worldwide, totaling eight.
