Chisinau: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was received on Monday by Moldovan President Igor Dodon in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau.

Dodon expressed his country’s keenness to strengthen its bilateral ties with the UAE in several fields, especially political, economic, social and cultural ones, as his government holds the UAE in high regard.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed UAE-Moldovan relations and ways of supporting and developing them, and discussed a number of regional and international issues of common concern.

Dodon affirmed his country’s efforts to bolster its relations with the UAE, and praised the progress and development witnessed by the UAE in all fields.

Shaikh Abdullah then met with Andrei Galbur, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, to discuss bilateral relations between their countries.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the two sides signed two agreements, one on avoiding double taxation, and another protecting and encouraging investment in the two countries.

During a joint press conference, Shaikh Abdullah thanked the Moldavian minister for the fruitful and constructive discussions, praising the economic agreements that were signed, which he said will contribute to increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries and stimulate bilateral investments.

“We discussed today several dimensions of our bilateral relations, and ways we can advance them and move them forward towards deeper cooperation, as well as a number of important issues on the international platform,” Shaikh Abdullah said.

“The recent decision by the Government of Moldova to exempt UAE nationals from requiring an entry visa has been a catalyst for progressing bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially when it comes to the relationship between the peoples of both countries,” Shaikh Abdullah said. He said that he looks forward to Moldova’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.

Later, Shaikh Abdullah met with Andrian Candu, President of the Parliament of Moldova, and Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation through exchanging visits, and issues of mutual interest.

They exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, and a number of issues of common concern.

Shaikh Abdullah stressed the importance of further developing UAE-Moldova relations and expressed his keenness for enhancing them in all fields, especially in the political, economic, trade, educational, cultural and parliamentary fields for the good and interest of the peoples of the two friendly nations. Shaikh Abdullah also stressed the importance of combating terrorism and extremism in all its forms.
