Additional collectors to be tourism ambassadors
Pimpri Chinchwad: State tourism minister Jaykumar Rawal has appealed to additional collectors to be “tourism goodwill ambassador” for the development of tourist destinations in their districts.
Speaking at a workshop on “Development of tourism in the state” at the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC)’s tourist residence in Karla on Wednesday, Rawal said there were opportunities for various types of tourism in Maharashtra. He stressed there was a large inflow of tourists for various types of tourism involving forts, world heritage sites, beaches, nature, agriculture, religion, ancient temples and Bollywood.
Rawal said tourism-based employment was being generated and various festivals were being organized to facilitate tourism. Thus, there was a need for creation of basic amenities at these places and revenue department officials should take charge, he said.
Pune divisional commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar, the managing director and the tourism director of MTDC, Abhimanyu Kale and Dilip Gawde, respectively, and additional collectors of various districts were present at the workshop held for additional collectors and divisional commissioners.
Rawal urged the officials to create district-level map by aggregating information about tourism.
