Aged between 16-18? You could travel around Europe by Interrail for FREE this summer

Want to travel this summer but not sure you can afford it? Well if you are a teenager you are in luck.

It’s part of the #DiscoverEU scheme funded by the EU which gives British teenagers and those all throughout Europe a chance to see the continent before we ‘leave’ it.

In total there are 15,000 FREE Interrail tickets up for grabs.

At face value, a Interrail ticket is worth up to £400 each. The tickets will be offered to any EU citizens who turn 18 before July as part of the scheme.

It is the brainchild of the German MEP and Group Chairman of the European People’s party in the European parliament, Manfred Weber.

“When I was a young student, I just couldn’t wait to visit the European places I had read so much about but never seen. On my travels, I came across people who were not so different to me,” he wrote on the You Discover website.

“I also learned to appreciate the little quirks that made them British, Italian, Spanish… I felt my mind broaden in ways I could not have imagined. I felt European.

“And I still need your help if I’m going to persuade the EU to offer every single European the chance to experience this too, to make new friends from all over Europe and feel a common European identity.”

Interrail was launched over 40 years ago and is a popular way for may young people to see much of Europe.

If you are interested in bagging yourself an Interrail card for free this summer then the first round of applications for 15,000 tickets will take place between 12 June and 26 June. If the scheme proves to be successful (it almost certainly will) then another 15,000 passes will be released in the second half of the year.

If successful you will be able to travel for up to 30 days to up to four EU countries with rail and ferries included.
