ABC News reports the 24-year-old attempted to bring back a World War II-era grenade Monday when she was stopped by customs officials. She reportedly told customs officials she found the device while hiking and believed it was harmless.
Police were immediately called and portions of the airport were shut down while the device was removed. The bomb squad later determined the grenade was a dud.
The mistake was a costly one for the unidentified American. German broadcaster Deutsche Welle reported she was fined $4,694 and was charged with public endangerment through negligence.
