Bahamas People-to-People Program popular with Florida TRAVEL COMPANIES
FORT LAUDERDALE – Authentic Bahamian cultural activities, like the Changing of the Guard at Government House and the country’s ‘People-to-People Experience,’ were a large hit for a recently available band of Florida travel companies who visited Nassau for a Familiarization trip.
The combined group included travel companies from the Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando areas, through the year most of whom have been subjected to The Bahamas product by way of a Seminar or presentation.
The Familiarization trip served because the Bahamas Tourist Office sales team’s second phase of a Florida Travel Agent Engagement Program.
Bahamas Tourist Office, Florida’s District Manager, Tina Lee, shared that the goal of the two-pronged program included, “strengthening and deepening relationships with the agents and exposing them to The Bahamas then.”
“I’m having a great time,” Kat Simpson said at the poolside of the real home of Mr. and Mrs. Pauline and henry Lightbourne, because the &lsquo was enjoyed by her;People-to- People” experience. Located in the Northern Florida area, and a large seller of The Bahamas product, Mrs. Simpson credited her success in selling The Bahamas to the known proven fact that “The Bahamas is indeed near Florida, it really is created by it so affordable.”
Ms. Simpson described the country’s long standing ‘People-to-People Experience’ as amazing and said that she hadn’t heard about this program before but was happy concerning the opportunity to come in contact with it since it provided her with “a geniune slice of Island life.” She noted that the majority of Americans are actually into &ldquo also;experiential” travel and that “The ‘People-to-People Experience’ supplies the possibility to really and go through the Bahamas.”
Bonnie Wagner of Elite Travel Concierge said that she sells most of the Bahamas product also. She raved on the ‘People-to-People Experience’ and said, “I’ve a complete large amount of people that will be thinking about getting a romantic feel of the Island, its residents and how they live.”
Mr. Henry Lightbourne, who along with his wife hosted the combined group at his home, shared he wants to help people to become familiar with The Bahamas better. He said that his philosophy is “In order to know my culture, arrived at the house and eat my food.”
The food that the visitors enjoyed throughout their visit with the Lightbournes included a smorgasbord of native Bahamian dishes and delicacies including Bahamian Ginger lemonade and the neighborhood Sands Beer; cracked lobster, grouper fingers, Bahamian cheese and macaroni and garden salad with papaya topped off by delicious Dilly Cake, Bennie Cake, Guava Cake and Coconut Tart.
The group’s accommodations were at the Baha Mar Grand Hyatt, Cable Beach and the Warwick Paradise Island. The Familiarization also included a meals and tour at various hotel resorts in Nassau, Bahamas.
The Bahamas Tourist Office sales force led the group’s visit. Members of the sales force included District Manager, Lee; Sr. Marketing Representatives, Adrian Phylia and Kemp Shivers and Sales Coordinator, Elke Pettiford.
