The fire department has said there is no risk of the second building collapsing, Folha reports.
The city fire department deployed a total of 57 engines to bring the skyscraper inferno under control, according to Estadao.
Preliminary reports indicate that the building which came down was uninhabited and that there were no injuries, though there has yet to be official confirmation.
The building was previously used by the Federal Police and may have been inhabited by squatters, according to local merchants as cited by Estadao.
