Emergency services were called to the scene on Tan House Lane shortly before 7pm to reports that a building was on fire in the Teal Business Park.
It has been reported that the fire broke out at the Unifrax- Saffil factory and has substantially damaged the building.
A woman whose husband works at the factory said he had rang her to reassure her he was ok, but that a third of the factory had been destroyed by the blaze.
She said: “He said that he was out safely and that everyone else had escaped from the fire, but that it was ripping through the building.
“He said at least a third of the building had been destroyed and that the roof had caved in.
“He was working overtime until 6 and said the fire had started around teatime.”
As of midnight the number of fire engines had been reduced to 10 but crews remained at the scene throughout the night. Most of the roads have now been opened again. Although as of midnight Moss Bank Lane remained closed.
As of yet the cause of the fire has not been determined.
