Business plan contest on tourism sector
The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Bangladesh Dhaka University Students Chapter of Department of Tourism and Hospitality, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka has initiated ‘TBiz Planner’, a business plan competition on tourism sector. The registration for the competition started on July 22. The competition is designed to explore ideas from the students on tourism and develop them into a proper plan that can be implemented on a larger scale.
Founded in 1951, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is a not-for profit association that is internationally acclaimed for acting as a catalyst for the responsible development of travel and tourism to, from and within the Asia Pacific region. The association provides aligned advocacy, insightful research and innovative events to its member organisations, comprising 95 governments, state and city tourism bodies, 29 international airlines, airports and cruise lines, 63 educational institutions and hundreds of travel industry companies in the Asia Pacific region.
The competition will be held in four rounds. These are ‘call for ideas’, ‘presentation session of short-listed ideas’, ‘development of plan and grooming session’ and ‘grand finale’. During the very first round– call for ideas– the TBiz Planners received with great response from the students. This first round and idea submission will end on August 07, 2017. From the first round, the submitted ideas will be shortlisted and aspiring participants will be asked to prepare a presentation detailing their ideas on August 15, 2017.
On the next round– presentation on selected ideas– the faculty members of the University of Dhaka’s Tourism and Hospitality Management department will extend their support to groom the ideas in another presentation session on August 27, 2017.
The season one of the TBiz Planners will end with a grand finale on September 27, 2017 where three best plans will be awarded after an interactive presentation session in front of the industry leaders and faculty members from the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, University of Dhaka. The expected juries of the grand finale are Chairman, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, University of Dhaka Professor Shaker Ahmed, Executive Director- Dhaka Regency Hotel and Resort and Chairman- PATA Bangladesh Chapter Shahid Hamid FIH, CEO of Journey Plus and General Secretary of PATA Bangladesh Chapter Toufiq Rahman. The prize money for the winner is Tk 25,000, the first runners-up Tk 15,000 and the second runners-up Tk 10,000.
The organisers are expecting to assess innovative business plans on tourism sector, present potential business plans to the industry leaders and engage the students with this sector of Bangladesh through this competition. The selection process and the grooming of the business plans are aimed to make sure that the best plans thrive ahead. The season two of the competition is expected to have a wider coverage and would call for plans from the students of other renowned universities.
