Claudia Coenjaerts, director of the International Labor Organization (ILO) decent work team and office for the Caribbean, for November 28-30 will deliver the keynote address at the 9th Tourism RECRUITING Conference set, 2018 at Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands.
Organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (CIDOT), the conference shall examine development of the region’s tourism personnel beneath the theme Creating a Resilient, Sustainable and high-performing Caribbean Tourism Workforce for Global Competitiveness.
Coenjaerts’ keynote speech, “The continuing future of Work – EXACTLY WHAT WILL End up being the New Normal,” will address major ongoing changes in the work force, which are expected to intensify in the foreseeable future. She shall explore the challenges of creating a high-performing, resilient workforce and offer ideas for rethinking engagement with recruiting in the ever-changing tourism environment.
Coenjaerts brings an abundance of knowledge and experience to the discussion having joined the ILO in 1995 where she worked extensively in Africa, Asia, North and europe America. To her current role prior, Coenjaerts served an 18-month tenure as president and ceo of the Fair Labor Association in Washington, D.C.
Through her work in ILO field offices, Coenjaerts has acquired an easy knowledge of ILO developmental cooperation activities in addition to expertise in the regions of gender equality at work, child labor, international labor standards, workers’ rights, multi-stakeholder initiatives, employment creation, youth employment, job creation in fragile states, social and labor compliance in supply chains in footwear and apparel; agriculture and electronics.
A Belgian national, Coenjaerts holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Sociology from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium.
The 9th Tourism RECRUITING Conference comes at the same time once the Caribbean faces increased global competition in the high-tech, innovation-driven industry, and amidst increasing demands a complete rethink of the true way tourism leaders build relationships the workforce. The event provides tourism practitioners from the general public and private sectors together, human resource professionals, tourism consultants and educators/trainers in addition to tourism and hospitality students of tertiary institutions.
