Dying China Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo can travel abroad, say foreign doctors
However, a German and American doctor who visited the 61-year-old said he could be moved, but warned the “medical evacuation would have to take place as quickly as possible”.
The statement from the doctors added: “Liu Xiaobo and his family have requested that the remainder of his care be provided in Germany or the United States.
“While a degree of risk always exists in the movement of any patient, both physicians believe Mr Liu can be safely transported with appropriate medical evacuation care and support.”
Mr Liu’s friends and supporters have called for him to be treated abroad.
As global attention focused on the former activist, China agreed to let him be assessed by Dr Joseph M. Herman, from The University of Texas’ MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Dr Markus Büchler, from the University of Heidelberg, in Germany.
