To save on bringing clothes that you won’t even wear, look at what you’ve got planned to do, then you should only pack clothes that match those activities.

Doing this might take up some time in the beginning, but it will save you hefty airport charges if your suitcase weighs more than your allowance!

Use a small pot for jewellery

Put jewellery in small pot (Image: Daily Post)

You can use a pill box or if you’re a parent the little weaning pots are great for this travel hack!

You won’t need to worry about your jewellery getting damaged when it’s in one of these.

When you put necklaces and bracelets in with your makeup or toiletries, the likelihood is that you’ll find them all tangled together when you arrive at your destination.

By putting them all in one small pot it reduces the amount of space for the jewellery to get chucked around during transport, so you can rest easy knowing that your favourite necklace (which you’ve chosen to match perfectly with your favourite nice top and jeans) will be knot free when you arrive.

Shoes, shoes shoes!

How to fit more shoes into your luggage (Image: Daily Post)

Shoes are the bane of many women’s lives when it comes to packing – how are we expected to limit ourselves to only one or two pairs?!

They take up so much room in your suitcase, not to mention the weight they add, but fear not, because there’s one clever way you can use your shoes to your advantage: put things inside them!

By utilising the space inside your shoes and putting your underwear or perfume inside them you not only save space but you minimise the chances of the latter getting smashed.

You could even put your perfume inside your sock and then inside your shoe, giving the glass bottle that extra bit of protection.

The space you save by shoving your socks and knickers in to the inner space of your shoes will easily leave you with enough space in your case to throw in an extra pair of flip-flops.

This is an oldie but a goodie – instead of folding your clothes, roll them!

I don’t know how it works but it does.

Use travel pots

Use travel pots (Image: Daily Post)

This one is a must if you’re only taking hand luggage because there’s a limit on the amount of fluids you can take take in to the aircraft cabin.

They also have to be in a small clear plastic bag, meaning you can’t go overboard on make-up and hair products.

The best way to get around this is to dispense items such as foundation, moisturiser, shampoo and conditioner in to smaller travel-sized pots.

Buy at the airport…

Buy toiletries after check-in

If you don’t want the hassle of dispensing your must-have items in to smaller, more travel-friendly pots, you can simply buy them at the airport once you go through security.

This makes sense if you’re travelling with a group of people and sharing a room or apartment because you can split the cost by sharing and then you don’t have the hassle of having to bring it back to the UK with you.

…Or when you arrive

Most hotels and holiday complexes have their own shops these days so if you don’t want the hassle of packing toiletries and want to spend your time at the airport relaxing rather than shopping, you can always wait until you arrive.

It saves space in your case, stress and the airport and doesn’t cost any more than it would in the UK!

Sharing is caring

GHD straighteners

Again, this works well if you’re travelling as a group.

If you’re travelling with people the best way is to share appliances and products!

Thankfully, most hotels have hairdryers already in the rooms, but if you’re travelling with a group of girls you can save some room by sorting out who’s bringing what – one person brings the straighteners, the other person brings the curlers, one person brings shampoo, the other brings conditioner and so on.

Keep your bag and clothes smelling fresh

Travel hacks – tumble dryer sheets (Image: Daily Post)

OK, this is a strange one but hear me out – if you’re going on a long haul flight, using tumble dryer sheets can keep your clothes smelling clean and fresh for when you arrive.

Simply put one sheet in between every other item of clothing and there you have it – fresh smelling clothes that smell like they’ve just come out of the dryer.

Wear the bigger stuff to travel

Reduce the weight of your hand luggage (Image: iStockphoto)

If you’re heading on a hot summer holiday, the likelihood is that that the majority of the stuff you’re taking is light-weight, but that doesn’t stop you being savvy and making sure you wear the heavier stuff to travel in.

For example, wear your denim jacket, leggings and trainers to travel in, saving space in your case and making sure you can stay warm in the UK climate.

Split the cost of one suitcase

Share and save (Image: shared content unit)

If you’re heading on a trip with the girls or boys and want to save some money by only taking hand luggage but you’re worried you wont have enough room for everything you need it might be wise to pay for one hold case and split the cost.

That way you can each throw in all the bulkier items in to the hold case without having to pay in excess of £25 each for the privilage.

Save the extra pennies for another cocktail – or two.
