Emirati killed as car flips over in Oman

Muscat: An Emirati man was killed and another injured when their car flipped over in Haima province, central Oman on Monday.
The two men were heading from the UAE to Salalah province in the southern part of Oman, Royal Oman Police said.
The accident occurred when the driver of the four-wheel-drive lost control due to speeding.
The victim died on the spot, while the passenger sustained severe injuries.
The injured Emirati was hospitalised in Nizwa, 150km from the accident spot, and is in critical condition.

At least 11 Emiratis were killed in separate road accidents in Oman in 2016, and 12 in 2015, according to Oman Police.
In 2014, ten Emiratis were killed in a crash in Salalah province. Another seven were killed in Salalah in 2013.
An Oman Police official said that speeding and overtaking are major reasons behind all road accidents on the Adam-Salalah stretch.
Figures from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) show that 692 people were killed in road accidents in 2016, compared with 975 in 2015.
