FG seek methods to curb medical tourism – Vanguard
The AUTHORITIES is seeking methods to improve efficiency in the operations of public hospitals and re-equip them to save lots of forex drain due to medical tourism.
The Minister of State for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, made the statement at a news briefing to commemorate the ”day 5th World Universal COVERAGE OF HEALTH,” wednesday in Abuja on.
Ehanire noted the theme for the commemoration, ”Unite for universal health coverage” and slogan, ”May be the time for collective action now.’’
He said that the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and its own partners had developed an operational platform for making certain every citizen had usage of affordable and comprehensive care regularly.
The minister said that the ministry and its own agencies in addition to partners were guided by way of a common vision and goal for Universal COVERAGE OF HEALTH (UHC).
He said that efforts were currently on-going to kick-start the initial phase of UHC in Abia, Osun, Katsina, Yobe, Federal and edo Capital Territory.
”We’ve worked to make sure that routine immunisation coverage has risen from 48 % to 57per cent.
”We continue steadily to distribute and educate citizens on the maintenance and usage of the resilient insecticidal-net.
”Another step may be the development of a national medical health insurance scheme for several Nigerians at all levels with robust citizen participation to create confidence.
”FMOH can be focusing on a universal medical emergency services and ambulance scheme to make sure free and immediate emergency treatment of most victims of accident and emergency situations,” he said.
The minister added that the federal government was focused on increasing investment in Nigeria&rsquo deeply;s health system to strengthen and improve service delivery.
