Glacier National Park warns visitors against off-trail travel

WEST GLACIER – Glacier National Park is getting ready for the tourist season, and park officials are reminding visitors to stay on the trails and leave what you find in the park.

Glacier saw nearly 3 million visitors last year, and off-trail travel can be harmful to grassy areas, especially near Logan Pass.

Even if visitors aren’t directly stepping on flowers or plants, walking in these areas causes soil compaction and can prevent vegetation from getting enough water and nutrients to survive.

Experts also remind visitors to leave artifacts as you find them. Removing anything from the park ruins its scientific value and can disturb the ecosystem.
