In Rajasthan, at various places in the lap of nature, many ‘glamping designations’ have come up and are attracting rich tourists since they combine resort-style luxurious services along with feel of camping amidst natural surroundings. A lot of Indian and foreign tourists are visiting glamping destinations that have come up around Jaipur, Dundlod, Sambhar, Pushkar, Jaisalmer, Bundi, Ranthambor and many more places.
I happened to attend a wedding reception party at glamping site in Dundlod few years ago and was surprised with safari tents having all the facilities of a standard hotel. Now, the trend has picked up and glamping is being sought after as a week-end destination to combine adventure and luxury.
The word Glamping is a portmanteau of ‘glamour’ and ‘camping’ that ascribes to camping with all modern hotel’s amenities and facilities. Glamping has become particularly popular in the present times since tourists and rich city-dwellers are seeking the luxuries of modern hotels coupled with adventure and recreation at a site with natural beauty in abundance.
During my recent visit to Thailand, I visited a glamping site to have a look at it and explore the possibility of spending two days at it but the tariff was unaffordable. However, I was conducted around the site to give a feel of it.
However, modern tourism industry made it commerce in the lap of nature away from the hubbub of noisy and polluted towns by bringing modern luxury to it. The hoteliers are creating tree houses, bell tents, safari tents, shepherd’s huts, yurts, floating huts, etc. as a luxury outdoor accommodations deep in the natural settings.
