How digital presence can help tourism in Mackay

TOURISM businesses from across the region gathered this week for a rare opportunity to expand their marketing knowledge for free.

The Queensland Digital Ready program was held in Mackay on Tuesday and attracted several business owners and employees from Goanna Brewing, Cape Palmerston Holiday Park, Sarina Sugar Shed and Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park to name a few.

Presenting the workshop was Fabienne Wintle from Tourism Tribe. The Queensland based digital training company has partnered with both the Queensland Government and the Queensland Tourism Industry Council to deliver the workshops for free to all tourism businesses.

Tourism Tribe CEO Liz Ward said the program would normally be valued at $2400 per operator.

“I urge all tourism operators to take advantage of this opportunity because it is a great guide for how to build an online presence,” she said.

She said it was always helpful to keep up to date on the latest marketing techniques.

“I’m here to learn ways to boost our business, the best ways to respond to reviews and how to make our customer experience the best it can be,” she said.

“Workshops like this are really helpful because they are a good refresher for our marketing techniques.”

Ms Klingner said the workshop had taught her the importance of online reviews.

“We focused a lot on testimonials, customer reviews and surveys and creative ways of displaying that sort of feedback on our website and social media,” she said.

“We also talked about the importance of making a bad situation better, essentially just making sure our customers have the best stay possible.”

There are up to eight free workshops taking place in each region covering web basics, online bookings, SEO, online strategy planning, online marketing for events, online reputation management, Facebook and Instagram.
