Iran and Spanish tourism officials explored avenues for promoting cooperation in the tourism sector.
During a meeting on the sidelines of the International Tourism Exhibition in Madrid, Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) Ali Asghar Mounesan and Chairman of the Tourism Council of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) Joan Gaspart, the two sides discussed the participation of foreign companies in hotel building, hoteleering and tourism-related services in Iran.
According to IRNA, Mounesan who is in Madrid to take part in the prestigious 38th International Tourism Fair (FITUR) referred to Iran’s cultural tourism attractions and highlighted the country’s 7,000-year-old civilization and history.
He commented on Iran’s plans to attract foreign investors to develop tourism infrastructure so that based on the 20-Year Vision Plan (2005-25), the number of foreign tourists visiting Iran should increase to 20 million from the current five million.
He also invited Spanish companies to enter Iran’s market.
Gaspart expressed interest in Iran’s ancient history and civilization, voicing his readiness to visit Iran to discuss Spanish companies’ presence in Iranian tourism industry.
An Iranian delegation made up of representatives of the public and private sectors is participating in the International Tourism Exhibition.
Iran’s pavilion in the ongoing event has been well received by professional visitors from various countries.
In all, 10,000 companies from over 165 countries are participating in the event which will continue until November 21, 2018.
