Major Tourism Destination on Fire in San Diego

Fire Pier

The fire at the Ruby’s Restaurant is at a diner, which is permanently closed at the Pier in San Diego, California., but is spreading to destroy this landmark.

Firefighting boats are on the scene, but they are having a very difficult time.

The roof on a small structure next to Ruby’s diner collapsed.

The original pier was built in 1888. Last year, the city of Oceanside spent $5.5 million to upgrade the 1,954-foot-long pier by replacing old pipes and electrical systems.

Residents as far east as Vista and as far south as Del Mar reported being able to see the smoke. Firefighters had the blaze under control around 6pm.
