Mohammad Bin Zayed receives Angela Merkel
Abu Dhabi: The UAE has called for wider German participation in regional and international affairs.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, called for a wider German participation in supporting stability and development, especially since Germany and Chancellor Angela Merkel possess international political weight.
Shaikh Mohammad made the statement on Monday during talks with Merkel, who is currently on a visit to the UAE.
The talks focused on ways to further bolster the strong relations between the UAE and Germany, and also touched on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Shaikh Mohammad and Merkel reviewed bilateral relations in the field of politics, economy, development and partnerships, and spoke about ways to further develop these relations.
They also discussed a number of issues and recent regional developments, particularly those pertaining to the Yemeni, Syrian and Libyan issues, as well as efforts exerted by the UAE and Germany to combat extremism and terrorist groups. They also spoke about coordination between the two nations to support stability and security in the region.

Shaikh Mohammad briefed Merkel on the UAE’s vision for a stable, prosperous and safe region. They also exchanged talks on developments in the international system and its impacts, and highlighted the importance of dialogue between key international players to reach a positive understanding that backs global peace and stability.
Shaikh Mohammad stressed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, gives special attention to relations with Germany, and is keen on strengthening it and driving it forward in all fields for the mutual interests of both countries and their peoples. He added that the UAE also backs all joint efforts for building an Emirati-German stance that is effective and impactful in dealing with sources of instability on the regional and international levels.
Shaikh Mohammad pointed out the strong and deep relations between the UAE and Germany, which are based on a solid partnership that reflects both nations’ confidence in one another. It is worth pointing out that the UAE is Germany’s top trading partner in the Arab region, with trade between the two countries valued at $16 billion.
Merkel had arrived earlier at the Presidential Airport, and was received by Shaikh Mohammad upon her arrival.
An official reception ceremony was held in honour of the German Chancellor, where both the UAE and German national anthems were played and a 21-gun salute was accorded in honour of the guest. A group of schoolchildren from the German School in Abu Dhabi also greeted Merkel, waving the flags of the two countries.
Present during the talks were Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority, Ali Abdullah Al Ahmad, UAE Ambassador to Germany, and other officials.
