Municipality of the District of Guysborugh amends Travel Expense Policy

Officials with the Municipality of the District of Guysborough approved an amendment to 1 of these policies coping with the general public disclosure of travel expenses of most elected officials during their regular council meeting last Wednesday.
Following the meeting, Warden Vernon Pitts said as a result of municipal government act, officials will have to create all travel expenses for councilors and also the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
Pitts said the municipality had this policy set up prior to the province pulled the trigger onto it long, so when a municipality they must tweak by-laws and policies from time-to-time which was among those regular tweaks.
The policy offers a framework for the routine disclosure of travel expenses of municipal elected officials to improve public confidence by improving accountability and transparency. Expenses from the prior eight-years will undoubtedly be maintained online to add current and prior term of council on a go-forward basis.
