New Year's Eve fireworks to return at Burj Khalifa
Dubai: Due to popular demand, Dubai-based developer Emaar is bringing back the fireworks display to celebrate the New Year at the world’s tallest tower.
Emaar, the master developer of Burj Khalifa, said on Thursday that “spectacular” fireworks will again light up the UAE’s most iconic landmark this coming New Year’s Eve.
“Emaar is gearing up for yet another spectacular New Year’s Eve celebration that will feature several amazing new elements in addition to spectacular fireworks, returning this year by popular demand,” the company said in a statement.
The annual fireworks shebang at Burj Khalifa, that was missed during the last NYE festitivities, will be returning due to popular demand.
On the eve of 2018, hundreds of thousands of visitors who flocked to Downtown Dubai witnessed a different kind of NYE celebration after Emaar opted for a lights show instead of the traditional fireworks display.

Fireworks displays have been synonymous with New Year’s Eve celebrations, with popular landmarks around the world lighting up the sky at the stroke of midnight.
Emaar said the upcoming “New Year’s Eve Gala” in Downtown Dubai will be highlighted by festivities across Burj Khalifa and water-music performances at The Dubai Fountain.
The show is being coordinated and produced by a team of world-class experts, according to Emaar. Governmental entities and the events security committee are supporting the event, to offer a seamless experience for visitors.
Many residents had mixed reactions last year. Some people welcomed the news, citing that it will reduce traffic woes, others have expressed concern that pulling the plug on the tradition could impact Dubai’s tourism sector.
“Wrong decision not to have fireworks on Burj Khalifa this New Year,” said Joevy Lanuza. “You don’t know how many hotels, airlines, travel agents, shopping malls will be affected by this decision. Thousands of tourists from around the world are eager to come to Dubai just to witness the fireworks.”
Each year, hundreds of thousands of spectators descend on Downtown Dubai, home of the world’s tallest tower and largest shopping mall, to enjoy the festivities. Back in 2013, nearly two million people converged to watch the show.
This year there will be special viewing platforms set up across Downtown Dubai. The firework event will be broadcast live on televisions globally and beamed on big screens in Downtown Dubai
