Singapore will soon get a taste of the New York and Las Vegas nightlife, courtesy of Lavo, a multi- concept restaurant, lounge bar and night club.
It will be opening its latest outlet on the rooftop of the Marina Bay Sands hotel.
It will be brought in by the Tao Group in its first foray into Asia. The group is behind some of the most successful nightclub and restaurant brands, including Tao, Marquee and Avenue.
Singapore’s Lavo will be the fifth such concept after restaurant and nightclub Lavo New York and restaurant, casino and sports lounge Lavo Las Vegas.
It marks the first time a Lavo will have both the restaurant and nightclub combined in the same space.
The establishment will take over the space occupied by Sky on 57 and Flight bar and lounge helmed by Singaporean celebrity chef Justin Quek. Details about what happens to Sky on 57 and Flight are expected to be given later.
Chef Quek declined comment when contacted.
In an exclusive e-mail interview with The Straits Times, Mr Noah Tepperberg, a partner in the Tao Group, says the venue will be a “vibe dining” concept, encompassing all-day and all-night dining, drinking and dancing throughout the week.
“Lavo will merge fine Italian dining with fine partying and will provide a one-stop shop for a day or night out with cocktails, where you can eat or dance at your table,” says Mr Tepperberg, who is in his 40s.
The Tao Group is among nightlife players in the United States which popularised or propagated bottle service club culture, although there is no clear indication that this will be available at the outlet here.
Bottle service club culture typically includes VIP treatment, such as a reserved table and host, for patrons who purchase liquor by the bottle.
Mr Tepperberg declined to reveal when the Lavo here will open.
“As we are still in the early stages of planning, we will be able to announce the opening date only at a later stage,” he says.
Describing it as “one truly voyeuristic space”, Mr Tepperberg says: “There will be multiple bars, a DJ booth, large flow lanes for people to dance between; and a uniquely designed indoor and outdoor space.”
Music programming there be open-format, playing everything from Top 40 to R&B to dance music, as well as featuring local resident DJs and international artists.
The Singapore Lavo’s rooftop location means it will sit alongside another multi-concept club, bar and restaurant, Ce La Vi, as well as celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck’s Spago.
Mr Tepperberg and his team have been visiting Singapore since 2013 and says they were attracted by the dynamic dining and nightlife scene here.
While some observers say Singapore’s nightlife scene is saturated, he is confident “there is room to grow”.
The Tao Group has worked with Marina Bay Sands operator, Las Vegas Sands, since 2005. Its outlets in Sands properties include Tao in The Venetian and Lavo at The Palazzo, both of which opened in Las Vegas in 2008.
“In the US, the Tao Group brand is an institution, so we want to give Asia a slice of the experience that we have become known for.”
