NEW DELHI: After UAE, now Oman is also going all out to woo Indian tourists. Oman has now started a new 10-day tourist visa at 5 Omani Riyal (about Rs 900 at current exchange rate) to visit the Sultanate.
“Indians who hold a valid visa to USA, Canada, Australia, UK, Japan and Schengen States can avail the Oman visa through an e-visa process by simply logging on to https://evisa.rop.gov.om/ and make the 5 Omani Riyal (OMR) payment on checkout, whereas other Indian travellers can get a sponsored visa by paying 5 OMR plus processing fee through their tour operators,” Oman’s ministry of tourism said in a statement.
The 10-day visa is in addition to the existing e-visa for Oman which is available at 20 OMR with a validity of one month. The amendments include dividing tourist visas into three sections: 10 days, one month and one year.
Oman tourism ministry’s India representative Lubaina Sheerazi said “An exotic, adventurous, historic, remarkable and geologically stunning Oman offers the most authentic Arabian experience to its visitors…. Oman being a short-haul destination from India, with excellent air connectivity from major Indian cities, … and easy availability of Indian food, is also becoming a preferred wedding destination. The reduced visa fees, new e-visa system, along with the newly opened Muscat International Airport will definitely be a boon for Oman’s tourism.”
Last month, Oman had relaxed visa rules for Indians after its neigbhours like UAE and Qatar. Oman had decided to issue unsponsored tourist visa on arrival to Indians “who reside in or hold an entry visa to any one of these countries — US, Canada, Australia, UK, Japan and Schengen States”.
“Oman visa on arrival can also be availed by the spouse (husband/wife) and children of the visa holder of any of these six mentioned countries as long as they are accompanying him/her, even if they do not hold a visa from these countries,” Oman Tourism has said in a mail to travel agents. Such people will be given a visa for a period of one month for a fee of 20 OMR if their passport is valid for not less than six months and they have a confirm hotel ticket and hotel accommodation.
