On the travel front
PHILIPPINE Airlines welcomed the festive season with the opening of new routes from Cebu. The latest international flight from Mactan is the thrice weekly Cebu-Bangkok-Cebu service. Gracing the inaugural festivities last Dec. 2 were Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, Department of Tourism 7 Director Joshur Judd Lanete, GMR chief commercial advisor Ravishankar Saravu, Kajomdet Apichartrakul of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the PAL execs led by vice president-revenue management Dina May Flores, vice president-corporate communications Josen Perez de Tagle and senior assistant vice president-VisMin sales Harry Inoferio.
For the local flights, the new routes include Cebu-Siargao, Cebu-Camiguin, Cebu-Ozamiz and Cebu-Legaspi.

Now on its 25th year in Cebu, SilkAir honored its top travel agents with an Appreciation Dinner at the Marco Polo Plaza. Man of the hour was the well-liked Jake Jeow, manager-Philippines of SilkAir, who expressed his gratitude for the support given by Cebu’s travel people. At the forefront of the top producers list was Angelita Dy of Grand Hope Travel. Party coordinators were sales and reservation officer Debra Luza and sales and admin assistant Christine Chua.
Cathay Pacific’s country manager-Phil. Rob Bradshaw came to town for a quickie visit and invited media friends for afternoon tea at Tinder Box. He proudly shared that CX is all set to launch non-stop services from Hongkong to Brussels, Dublin and Copenhagen in the summer of 2018 using the state-of-the-art Airbus 350-900s. Featuring the latest seats and cabin designs, the aircraft offers a new level of onboard comfort which include an enhanced inflight entertainment system and Wi-Fi. The CX mainstays in Cebu Connie Cimafranca and Hazel Tagimacruz added that in celebration of its 25 years in Cebu, Cathay Pacific is offering promo fares.
Denim & Diamonds was the theme of the CTTA (Cebu Tours & Travel Association) Christmas party at Mezzo Hotel. Oh yes, everyone wore denims in all kinds of styles, and for those who were set to be true to the party theme, they incorporated a “sprinkling of diamonds” in their get-ups.
Lots of fun for the travel people and their guests with the good-natured CTTA president Alan Carvajal of Travelways and his crew on the frontline. Managing the games and raffle draws was program host Cookie Chan of Southwind. Top game winner was the Destination Specialists team headed by Marget Villarica while the “Best Attire” prize went to the Leisure Travel group of Sheila Colmenares who all wore “diamond crowns.”
