Aizawl: Mizoram tourism minister John Rotluangliana on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of Asia’s longest ropeway here.
The proposed ropeway will be also the first of its kind in the state.
Rotluangliana said the ropeway would operate between Durtlang and Tourist Lodge at Chaltlang here. It will be the longest single unsupported “span” ropeway in Asia. He said the proposed ropeway service would boost tourism. The project has been sanctioned by the Centre.
The ropeway will be 2.23km long and designed to ferry 24 passengers on a single trip in eight minutes. Delhi-based Leading Edge Pvt Ltd has been hired to execute the construction.
Rotluangliana said the state government is also constructing a golf course.
