Ten flights were delayed at Krabi international airport on Saturday afternoon after authorities closed the facility temporarily to repair damage to a recently resurfaced section of the runway.
An image posted online by an airport user showed some chunks of newly laid asphalt apparently washed away by rain. A contractor had resurfaced the section in question on Thursday night, it was reported.
Airport authorities decided to temporarily close the airport for the repair work, starting from 1pm Saturday. Seven domestic and three international flights were affected. Many passengers wanting to go to Bangkok were left stranded, Thai media reported.
Atthaporn Nueng-udom, director of the airport, said he had suspended the use of the airport pending the repair of the damaged runway section, which was expected to be done by 4pm Saturday.
