YEREVAN, May 25. /ARKA/. The share of tourism in Armenia’s export was 25 percent in 2016, Hovhannes Azizyan, deputy acting economy minister, said on Wednesday.
He said that this indicator is planned to be increased. In his words, the number of tourists traveling to Armenia has grown 25 percent over the last decade.
To develop its tourist industry, he said, Armenia should strengthen its ties with foreign air companies and improve its infrastructures.
The Armenia government, he added, is convinced that tourism is one of the key segments for development of the country’s economy.
Zarmine Zeytuntsyan, head of eth ministry’s tourism agency, too, confirmed that tourism is a very important segment of the country’s export.
“The number of tourist visits to Armenia rose 45% in April 2017 alone, compared with the previous year,” she said. “This year the growth was ensured by tourists from the countries which are our targeted outlets – particularly Iran, Russia, China and the Philippines.”
She said plenty has been done in 2017 in the countries targeted by Armenia – presentations have been held in four cities of Iran and Armenia also took part in exhibitions in Tehran.
Zeytuntsyan said that Armenia targets countries that are geographically close to it and countries with simplified visa procedures.
As many as 600,000 tourists visited Armenia in the first quarter of this year – 18.2% year-on-year growth. –0—
