Patna: Recuperating Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad is facing new trouble now. Admitted to a hospital in Jharkhand capital after his surrender before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court last week, Lalu is unable to sleep the whole night owing to the barking dogs outside his hospital wards.
“The barking street dogs have been disturbing sleep and peace of Lalu Prasad at the hospital the whole night. We are very much worried about his health and want the hospital authorities to move him to another ward for better sleep so that he could recover fast,” Lalu’s close confidante and RJD lawmaker Bhola Prasad Yadav said on Monday. He added Lalu’s health had shown no improvement since his admission to the hospital four days back.
Lalu, who is serving jail terms in three fodder scam cases, has been diagnosed with at least 15 different kinds of diseases, which include Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, peri-anal abscess, cardiac problems and acute kidney injury. Right now he is admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Ranchi.
A worried Lalu has requested the hospital authorities to move him to another ward keeping in view his health complications. “His request has been forwarded to the jail department. We will be acting on his request only after we get permission from the jail authorities,” RIMS’ director RK Srivastava told media on Monday.
Prior to his surrender, the RJD president was admitted to the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai. He surrendered before the court last week after the Jharkhand High Court rejected his plea for another extension of provisional bail on health grounds and instead asked him to surrender by August 30. Soon after his surrender, he was admitted to the local hospital for treatment.
Lalu was granted five-day parole to attend the wedding of his eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav on May 9. Later, the court granted him provisional bail for six weeks on medical grounds.
