Soccer Mums travel to France
The players competed in four matches on Friday, winning one, drawing two and losing one.
And some of the players were selected to represent England teams in the 11 aside matches in the evening.
The team was founded two years ago by a group of nine women who were tired of watching from the sidelines as their sons and daughters played. Now more than 50 people play each week.
Founder Will Conaghan said: “Bec Felton was awarded the best player in the group.
“Five of our players were selected to represent England teams in the 11 aside in the evening.
“Those players would represent – England, Wales, USA and Rest of the World.
“As there were so many ‘England’ players they made up two teams and had a play off with the winning England team then going to play (and beat on penalties) Rest of the World in the semis.
“One of our players – Lucy George – made it through to the final with her England team and they narrowly lost 1-0 to the ‘USA’.
“Also, some of our girls from Stafford Town Under 15 team, and my 13-year-old-son, were refs and assistant refs for all the matches.
“And other children who came along with us were helpers in the tournament.
“The organisers praised our kids for their help.”
A total of 28 people – 12 players, husbands, partners and kids – were with Stafford Soccer Mums.
There were nearly 200 women taking part in the event.
