“No violent incident has been reported from the district in the last 18 hours,” the authority said.
“Accordingly, the curfew has been lifted by the Police and tourists can resume their travel plans to Kandy.”
Government Information Department, however, said in a statement that the curfew temporary lifted at 10 am in the morning will be re-imposed at 6 pm in the evening.
Government said the curfew temporary lifted in the morning after considering the requests from the general public for the need to reach for essential items.
Sri Lanka Tourism said members of the tourism and travel industries worked with local Police yesterday to facilitate issuance of passes for tourists who chose to move out of Kandy due to the curfew.
“The situation in Kandy, however, had no impact whatsoever on other parts of the country, and day to day affairs and activities took place smoothly outside Kandy district,” the authority said.
“Sri Lanka Tourism continues to work with all industry stakeholders; tourists and travelers are safe and secure as they travel throughout Sri Lanka.”
