Sydney transport bosses have been slammed on social media for a ‘travel hacks’ campaign that lays bare how badly buses and trains are struggling to cope. 

Transport for New South Wales posteed the helpful tips on their Facebook page which included running to work, turning up late, or delaying going home.

While each of the 39 hacks is slightly different, the overarching message is persuading people not to travel at rush hour becuase services are overcrowded.

The campaign was met with a furious response when it was posted on the Transport for NSW Facebook page on Thursday, and seems to have been deleted since.

Fiona Baker wrote: ‘Just fix the mess and stop putting the responsibility for congestion on those who are travelling.

‘And how about helping to get parents off the road instead of them madly dashing back and forth across the city from one sporting facility to another.

‘You could try offering more activities on school grounds instead of, oh, I don’t know selling off every possible inch of school land for apartments!’

Transport for NSW said the aim of the campaign was to change people’s behavior and Sydney residents were consulted before it was published.

‘The Travel Choices “Travel Hacks” campaign aims to demonstrate how little changes to people’s daily travel can help save time and reduce the stress of travelling in peak periods,’ a statement said.
