Police raided a house in Bangkok’s Bang Khunthian district on Sunday, arrested two 17-year-olds, a boy and a girl, and seized 480,000 methamphetamine pills and 48 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine in their possession.
The raid on house No.102/163 in Pisal Housing Estate in Samae Dam sub-district was led by Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakphan, commander of the Patrol and Special Operations Division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and Pol Maj Gen Thammanoon Traithipayapong, chief of the Samut Prakan police.
The two teenagers, whose names were withheld, were alone in the two-storey house. Police also found two suitcases in a storeroom on the groundfloor. One contained 480,000 methemphetamine pills and the other 48kg of crystal methamphetamine, known as “ice”.
The two teens and the drugs were taken to Samrong Nua police station on Samut Prakan province for further investigation.
Pol Maj Gen Surachet said the Bang Kunthian raid followed a joint investigation by the Metropolitan Police Bureau and Samut Prakan police after the arrest on April 1 of Therdsak Ketphrom, 41, a drug suspect wanted under an arrest warrant. Police seized from him a Lamborghini car, a Mitsubishi Pajero SUV, a Honda Civic car, a Chevrolet car and Yamaha R-1 motorcycle, land title deeds, cash and gold worth about 61 million baht altogether.
Pol Maj Gen Thammanoon said investigators believed a drug network led by Mr Therdsak had been hired by a major drug dealer in Laos to store the drugs in this house, which had been rented for 20,000 baht per month, before being distributed to provinces around Bangkok and in Chumphon, Surat Thani, Songkhla and other provinces in the South.
He said the owner of the house would be invited in for questioning.
