IT’S a far cry from the temperatures of Darwin but one Territorian is getting rugged up for a trip to Antarctica.
Kiara Crook is one of 80 women from around the world who will travel to the icy southern land at the end of this year to complete a leadership program for women in the sciences.
The group will visit research stations and the islands around Antarctica, as well as meeting the friendly local penguins.
Ms Crook, an environmental scientist, is hoping to use the skills she learns to help other women from regional and remote places take up STEM-based jobs.
“It’s hard to get into the sciences in regional towns, especially for women, so I hope I’ll be able to mentor and influence other young women,” she said.
