At the 2018 Academy Awards ceremony, the Short Film (Live Action) Oscar went to “The Silent Child”. In her acceptance speech, Rachel Shenton used sign language, keeping the promise that she made to the film’s profoundly deaf six-year-old lead actress, Maisie Rose Sly.
