Three area lodging sites are featured in a travel-oriented coffee table book titled “Spectacular Weekend Getaways of Texas” compiled by Texas author Jolie Berry.
The 208-page book, sub-titled “Inspiration for the Modern-Day Explorer,” features Country Woods Inn and Inn on the River in Glen Rose, alongside nearby Rough Creek Resort and Lodge.
The written book includes a Glen Rose “Spotlight” on pages 38-39, which include photos of Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, Big Rocks State Park, the Creation Evidence Museum and the historic downtown courthouse square. In addition, it notes that Glen Rose is called the bluegrass capital of Texas, and mentions the River Walk and the favorite Squaw Valley COURSE widely.
“If natural history and outdoor adventures are your speed, Glen Rose can be your next destination,” Berry wrote. “Because the dinosaur capital of Texas, the city has Dinosaur Valley State Dinosaur and Park World.
The Texas Getaways book can be bought for $45 at each one of the three local inns featured.
COUNTRY WOODS INN
Country Woods Inn owner Helen Kerwin said guests love the Texas Getaways book there.
“It’s so done well. It’s really neat our community has three very different forms of inns (featured). It’s an excellent tourist destination just,” said Kerwin, who served as mayor of Glen Rose from 1997-1999, and is really a former Somervell County commissioner also.
The written book describes Country Woods Inn as “an adventurous taste of the rural life.”
It adds, “Uncover the beauty of one’s family at Country Woods Inn again. Walk the trails on 40 wooded acres across the Paluxy River where you could fish and swim.
“Sleep as if you have slept before in a 100-year-old farm house or vintage Airstream never. Stay static in a Santa Fe Rail Car, cabin, or the primary lodge for sets of to 60 people up.”
The website for Country Woods Inn (www.countrywoodsinn.com) promotes its atmosphere as “a geniune stick to the Paluxy River” so when a “bed, breakfast and barn.”

Kerwin said this marks the 22nd. The website started, “with an individual room in my own house,” nonetheless it began to expand soon.
Kerwin noted, “We moved three old houses from downtown they were likely to bulldoze.”

Inn on the River is described in the written book as a “meticulously” restored inn that “offers fine dining, personalized service, romantic getaways, or corporate retreats …”

The website says that, in a single way, Dr. Snyder’s spirit lives on.
“We don’t claim to obtain healing powers, but we do hold true to the doctor’s belief that all guest should leave feeling renewed and refreshed.”
“There have been 162 artesian wells in the Glen Rose area,” Linnabery said.
The true name became Inn on the River in 1984, Linnabery said.
The inn property features 300-year-old live oak trees. They inspired a former guest at the inn and a cowriter to create the song “Singing Tree,” that is on the soundtrack album for the 1967 Elvis Presley movie, “Clambake.” The song isn’t performed in the movie, however, in accordance with Linnabery.
When asked the way the trees had become referred to as the “Singing Trees,” Linnabery said, “Once the wind’s blowing they type or sort of sing for you.”
ROUGH CREEK LODGE AND RESORT
“I was very proud to be connected with that written book and Texas Getaways. I’m very pleased with it,” Rough Creek General Manager Paul Boccafogli said.

Rough Creek Lodge includes a long set of fun activities, including horse riding, hunting along with other shooting sports (sporting clays, tactical shooting complex), pools and hot tubs, fishing, petting zoo, zipline, hayrides, fossil hunting, canoes, climbing wall, archery, tennis courts, hiking trails, bicycles, BB gun range, and tomahawk throwing. Batting cages for softball and baseball are increasingly being added.
The Rough Creek Kids Camp offers foosball, ping pong, basketball shooting, video gaming and games for the small children while giving the adults some peace and quiet by themselves.
Hunters can target white-tailed deer, feral hogs, quail, pheasant, chukar, turkeys and ducks.
There are several interesting changes along the way also.
Guest rooms in the hotel are increasingly being upgraded, and how big is the dining area will be expanded.
But the largest change of most could be the addition of 32 ranch-style homes which are under construction, to be referred to as The Residences at Rough Creek. They’re separate from the hotel, and you will be offered on the market for individual ownership. The residences shall range between 1,600 square feet to 2,200 square feet.
Boccafogli also noted that the lodge is still a stylish getaway for businesses to schedule meetings and team development sessions.
“Rough Creek Lodge is targeted on continuing to provide an excellent venue for companies to invest a couple of days and take the time to relax and also have recreation for team development,” Boccafogli said.
Now; in the summertime months — may be the prime time for family getaways at Rough Creek, Boccafogli said, adding, “The youngsters get back to school once, we grab far more corporate business.”
