As four travel trailer sites begin to fill local parks in Andover, North Lawrence and Andover, families are slow to occupy the spaces because they continue steadily to find alternative housing in the wake of the Merrimack Valley gas disaster.

The largest travel trailer site, situated in O’Connell South Common Park in Lawrence, has 180 trailers where residents can stay until gas service is restored with their home, an activity which could take until Nov. 19. In accordance with Christopher Besse, the general public information officer with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, 95 trailers at the park have already been prepared for residents and just 13 families have moved in by Wednesday evening. Besse said another 30 trailers have already been assigned to families who ought to be relocating soon.

Besse said he could be unsure if all 180 trailers will be occupied.

“It’s hard to inform really, it people&rsquo depends on;s situations and another housing options that are offered,” said Besse. “This will depend on the elements and the temperature also.”

Besse said all of those other trailer sites are increasingly being prepared. In accordance with a release from MEMA, Pemberton State Park in Lawrence shall have 100 trailers, alongside 80 trailers at Grogan Field in North Andover and 40 trailers at Recreation Park in Andover. By Wednesday evening besse said, the South Common Park location may be the only one that’s currently housing families.

The 30-foot Acadia and Coleman trailers are prearranged and organized into rows over the parks you need to include a kitchen space, sleeping and bathroom quarters that may fit around eight people.

Each trailer site will undoubtedly be staffed with security personnel alongside maintenance and management. Besse urges residents who want to reside in alternative housing to call Columbia Gas or MEMA and proceed through an intake process and not simply “arrive.” Other housing options supplied by Columbia Gas include hotel apartments and rooms.

According to Columbia Gas’ daily briefing, of yesterday as, 22 out of 44 miles of main line have already been replaced in the affected areas and 1,334 out of 6,100 service lines have already been replaced.
