Some say let it snow, others are screaming stop. Whether it’s elation or apathy, the wintry weather in Chautauqua County wreaked havoc for holiday travelers Monday.
Snow pummeled the region throughout the day, and totals were well over a foot in most areas by late evening.
A travel ban was issued in the town of Hanover on Monday evening. The Fredonia Police Department issued a travel advisory for the village.
Earlier in the day, multiple vehicles were disabled on Interstate 86, which caused a short-term closure.
The Southern Tier Expressway was shut down in both directions for about two and a half hours from the Findley Lake exit to Sherman. A portion of the westbound lane was further closed to Bemus Point.
Several vehicles reportedly became stuck or ended up in a ditch.
