UNWTO Secretary General Race: Final listing of candidates


The Secretariat from the World Tourism Organization referring to choice CE/DEC/15(CIV) of the Executive Council on its 104th session (Luxor, Egypt, 30 October – 1 Nov 2016), on the procedure for the political election of the Secretary-General, informs in regards to the selection for the post of Secretary-General for that period 2018-2021, that as of eleven March 2017, 24: 00 hrs, Madrid time, the deadline for that submission of candidatures in accordance with these decision, the following candidatures were full and duly accompanied by the required files (letter of the candidate, curriculum vitae, declaration of policy and management purpose and a certificate of good health authorized by a recognized medical facility), combined with the letter of support from the Govt of the country endorsing a candidate (listed in alphabetical order of the Associate State):

Mr. Vahan Martirosyan posted with the support of the Government associated with Armenia and received on ten March 2017;


Mr. Má rcio Favilla submitted with the support from the Government of Brazil and obtained on 6 March 2017;


Mister. Jaime Alberto Cabal Sanclemente posted with the support of the Government associated with Colombia and received on six March 2017;


Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili submitted with the support of the Federal government of Georgia and received upon 2 December 2016;

Republic of Korea:

Mrs. Young-shim Dho submitted using the support of the Government of the Republic of Korea and received upon 24 February 2017;


Mr. Alain St . Ange submitted with the assistance of the Government of Seychelles plus received on 18 January 2017;


Mr. Walter Mzembi submitted using the support of the Government of Zimbabwe and received on 4 Mar 2017;

The Secretariat received seven other applications that have been not accompanied by the required documents. As a result, the applications will not be submitted towards the 105th session of the Executive Authorities.
