The 16th edition of the US Travel Agents Golf Tournament tees off at 7:30 this morning with 20 teams at the Sandals Golf and Country Club in Upton, Exchange.
Lindsay Isaacs, regional public relations manager, yesterday said all was set for the weekend as the Sandals resort hosts more than 80 travel agents from the United States for a weekend of what has now become competitive golf in addition to a first-hand opportunity for the players to experience the various local attractions.
“Everything is all set. We’re all ready for the teams. We’re excited and think the weather will be in favour of us,” said Isaacs, alluding to what could be cool and overcast conditions as what is expected to be remnants of Tropical Storm Isaac pass to the south of the island.
“We’re very optimistic and are going out there to have a solid show and make it happen. The teams are in high spirits, both participants and Sandals team members,” she added.
The annual tournament is one of three hosted by Sandals, which also benefits the Sandals Foundation and its junior golfers programme, which has produced 2015 Caribbean junior champion, Romaine Evans.
“They arrived three days ago and have been touring the region and Sandals properties. We are showcasing Jamaica as a golfing destination, the brand and everything we have to offer. The golf tournament is quite competitive as semi-pro players have been featured on some teams,” Isaacs pointed out, adding that an awards ceremony will close out the weekend tomorrow night.
