Mr Gatti said the direct url to WA would encourage more Italian tourists to see the west coast rather than Australia’s more high-profile capital cities in the east.
But he warned the route would have to be supported by a thorough marketing strategy to market the complete State, saying Perth couldn&rsquo alone; t contend with Melbourne or Sydney.
“Perth is fantastic, nevertheless, you have competition from Melbourne and Sydney,” he said.
“It really is hard to compete. When you have to select a city (in Australia to go to), people shall desire to see Sydney.
“But natural splendor is another plain thing and WA has every-thing with regards to adventure, natural splendor, (Aboriginal) art and culture — Italians are driven by beauty and art. WA can be an exotic location, offering tourists something they will have seen before within their life never.”
Earlier this season, Qantas introduced a Perth-London non-stop 17-hour flight.
Mr Gatti said he’d hold further discussions with Perth Airport and Qantas, this season which launched its Perth-London non-stop flight earlier.
Mr Papalia said he previously asked Tourism Australia to measure the opportunity of a Perth-Rome non-stop route.
He said the actual fact the Italians had indicated these were prepared to be engaged in a online marketing strategy to promote the brand new service made the proposal a lot more attractive.
“If the entry could be created by us point for Italians into Australia Perth, then that feeds into our shoot for WA to function as gateway into Australia,” Mr Papalia said.
“My way of thinking have been for another direct flight to be Frankfurt, if the Italian Government is thinking about supporting this proposal, a primary flight from Italy elevates this up the list then.”
Mr Gatti said Italians generally knew hardly any about WA but he believed a primary flight would entice them to hawaii.
“Italians want to travel — it really is inside our blood,” he said.
“Tourism Australia has calculated that 19 % of Italians will be looking at the possibility to do a vacation to Australia.
“Whenever you get to Australia from Europe it really is like being on another planet. The plants will vary, the animals will vary — the social folks are different, in an exceedingly positive way.
“This is a question of logistics &mdash just; just how long it shall try travel and the price?”
