Air Premia has announced its plan to implement IATA Turbulence Aware, an innovative safety tool created by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), beginning on March 1, 2025.

This sophisticated system utilizes real-time in-situ turbulence reports to improve flight safety and enhance passenger comfort. As of the end of the previous year, over 25 airlines globally were both contributing to and utilizing Turbulence Aware data across more than 2,600 aircraft.

By leveraging real-time turbulence information, Air Premia’s flight crews will be better prepared to avoid or lessen the impact of turbulence, thereby ensuring safer and more comfortable flights.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, airlines experienced 14,802 turbulence encounters in the first half of 2024, marking a 78% increase compared to five years ago. By adopting Turbulence Aware, Air Premia can shift from a forecast-based response to a real-time response, thereby improving its ability to secure safer flight paths.

The adoption of Turbulence Aware will allow Air Premia to efficiently address Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) in airspace where turbulence was not anticipated, as well as to modify flight operations in instances where forecasted turbulence fails to materialize, thereby minimizing safety incidents for both passengers and crew.
