Airbus has made an investment in LanzaJet, a prominent company in sustainable fuels technology and production, as part of its goal to drive the worldwide advancement of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

This financial support will aid in the advancement of the Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) pathway, a crucial stage in the production of SAF on a large scale, by empowering LanzaJet to enhance its ability and capacity to expand its exclusive Ethanol to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) process technology.

LanzaJet utilizes low-carbon ethanol in its technology to produce SAF, resulting in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by over 70% compared to traditional fossil fuels. This reduction can be further enhanced through the implementation of various carbon reduction technologies. The SAF created through LanzaJet’s ATJ technology is an approved drop-in fuel that is compatible with current aircraft engines and infrastructure.

The company is currently commencing operations for the world’s first commercial-scale production of ethanol-to-SAF at LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels in the United States. This facility will manufacture SAF and renewable diesel from sustainable and low-carbon ethanol, serving as a model for expanding SAF production. LanzaJet is actively involved in projects across 25 countries and 5 continents, aiming to globally scale ethanol-to-jet production while collaborating with key stakeholders in the SAF value chain.
