Budapest Airport, managed by VINCI Airports, has announced the reinstatement of easyJet’s bi-weekly service linking Budapest and Lyon, which is also part of the VINCI Airports network. This route, last operated before the pandemic, will cater to the increasing tourism demand between these two enchanting cities and France.
With over 2,500 two-way seats available each month and no direct competitors, the relaunch is anticipated to lead to a rise in flight frequencies as demand escalates. The tourism exchange between France and Hungary remains robust, with 193,000 French visitors arriving in Budapest in 2023, reflecting a 7% increase compared to pre-pandemic figures.
In the year 2023, there were 22,000 transfer passengers traveling indirectly between Lyon and Budapest, establishing it as one of the largest indirect city-pairs for Budapest Airport in Europe. The close location of Lyon to the French Alps, famous for its ski resorts, is anticipated to draw Hungarian skiers, thereby increasing demand for this route. Lyon now stands as easyJet‘s fourth destination from Budapest, joining the successful routes to London Gatwick, Basel, and Geneva. This new connection highlights the robustness of VINCI Airports’ network.
